School Boy Humor Interview

-Shine On Media recently got a chance to ask the guys from School Boy Humor some questions about touring, music and some of their favorite things. Their EP, “Camera Shy But Still A Star” is available now on iTunes and includes a great cover of Colbie Caillat’s hit “Realize.” Find out more about the band at their official myspace HERE.

-Introduce yourselves (Name, Age, Instrument)

Anthony (21, Guitar/Vox), Phil (21, Guitar/Vox), Caleb(21, Keyboard/Vox), Greg (20, Drums), Pierce (20, Bass)

-How did you all meet?

We pretty much all went to school together! Anthony and Caleb actually met at Gymnastics. They’re both olympic level gymnasts.

-How long have you been involved with music?

We’ve all been messing around with guitars and drums since we were about 13

-How did you come up with the name “School Boy Humor?”

The phrase was used in a documentary about Blink-182. We we’re all listening to it, and thought it would be a cool name.

-What’s the smallest crowd you’ve ever played for?

Our parents!

-The largest crowd?

About 3,000

-How would you describe your sound/music to someone who has never listened to you before?

Pop Rock music and stick-in-your-head choruses.

-Out of: Camera Shy, Cheating Myself, and Everyone Who Breathes, which one did you have the most fun time writing or recording?

We loved ’em all, but we wrote Camera Shy by itself, so I think that’s the most memorable.

-What inspires you to write songs?

Absolutely everything! From relationships, to friends and family. Our lives are made up of meaningful relationships, so that’s what we write about!

-What made you decide to cover “Realize” by Colbie Caillat?

We’re all big fans of Colbie Caillat. All her songs have a pretty chill vibe, so we thought it would be cool speed one up just a little, put a little disortion in it!

-What is another song you’d like to cover?

You know we we’re just talking about that, and we couldn’t make up our mind!

-Are you currently on tour?

We spending Christmas at home, then we’ll be on the road for the next year straight!

-What’s the one place you’d love to perform at?

The Grammy’s! Haha, it’s a little unorginial, but it’s the truth!

-If you could go on tour with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

We don’t tour with zombies! Haha. But seriously, Blink-182 or New Found Glory

-Who are your musical influences?

We listened to a lot of pop-punk growing up, but now we listen to absolutely everything!

-What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Never take one fan for granted.

-What advice would you give for aspiring musicians?

You’re songs are gonna stink at first! OURS DID! Just keep writing, and make sure everyone hears your music!

-Fan Kim loves your t-shirt designs and wants to know if you design them or have a hand in designing them?

It depends! Our drummer Greg designs some, and we have an awesome guy who does the rest!

-What is currently your most played song on your mp3 player?

Camera Shy

-What’s the most embarrassing song on your mp3 player?

Haha we’re not embarassed by any of ’em!

-Favorite TV show?

We all like different shows. We pretty much all love Family Guy though!

-What’s the last movie you saw in theaters?

TWILIGHT!!!!

-What’s the last book you read?

haha…take a guess.

-If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?

GREGARIOUS…it’s a fun word to say too!

-How would you describe each other?

LOUD!

-What’s one thing you have to have with you while on the road?

GPS! we get lost all the time!

-If you were a crayon, what color would you be?

Salmon! Ya know, the light pink one?

-If there were a soundtrack to your life, what song would have to be on it?

Eye of The Tiger!

-It’s the holiday season, what’s your favorite thing about it?

The movie, A Christmas Story! “YOU”LL SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT!”

-What’s the best present you’ve ever received?

A record deal!

-What has been the highlight of 2008?

Putting out our EP “Camera Shy, But Still A Star!” GO PICK IT UP!

-What is something you hope to accomplish in 2009?

A hit record!

-Is there anything you’d like to say to the fans?
