Exclusive Chris Koon Interview
Chris Koon is a very talented actor, singer, model and dancer. He has worked on "One Tree Hill," "Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties," and much much more!! He’s definitely one to watch out for. Be sure to visit his Official Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/chriskoon. This interview was conducted back in July…sorry for the delay in posting.
SO-M: First off Chris, just wanted to say thank you so much for letting us do this interview.
Chris Koon: Oh, are you kidding? My pleasure! I’m really excited to finally be a part of a site I’ve heard so many awesome things about!!! Thank YOU guys!
SO-M: How did you first get started in the business?
CK: I grew up doing musicals in the church and I did some community theater, and I ended up getting a role in a national ad campaign, I guess you could say, about not drinking and not smoking…kind of an anti-drug kind vibe. One of my co-stars recommended me to her agent, I ended up getting signed and then the rest is history, I guess!
SO-M: You sing and dance, do you like one more than the other?
CK: For me, if I could combine acting, dance, and music, I’d be a happy guy. I really like the fact that they’re trying to bring back the movie musicals…High School Musical, Rent, Chicago, Phantom of the Opera…and I hear they’re remaking Hairspray, which I love, but yeah…those are all great examples of musicals actually trying to get a message across, and that to me is cool. So yeah, I mean, acting, dancing, singing – all amazing on their own, but you put them together, whether it’s stage or screen, and you’ve won me over…hahaha.
SO-M: You recently did work for both "Garfield: The Tale of Two Kitties" and season 3 of "One Tree Hill." What can you tell us about that?
CK: I did, yeah! "One Tree Hill" was awesome. I actually ended up getting sick while I was out there, so that wasn’t fun, but the time that I spent out there was really cool. It was definitely a dream come true being on a show I had been (and still am) fan of. And Garfield…I mean, that was something so many kids watch growing up, so the fact that I got to work with Paws, Inc. was too cool! I did choreography and some background vocals for a couple music videos to be released alongside a new Garfield website and press campaign they’re doing, so yeah, I’ve been blessed with some amazing opportunities, that’s for sure. 🙂
SO-M: I’ve heard you were involved in Jessica Simpson’s new video. What role did you have?
CK: Hahaha…that’s a funny story. I actually sent in a video audition for a background role in the video as kind of a joke, because I never figured in a million years that I would actually make the cut, but from what I hear, I’m gonna be in an exclusive online version of the video! I haven’t seen it yet, so I guess we’ll see!
SO-M: Do you have any projects in the works that you can tell us about?
CK: Things are kind of put on hold right now, because I’m a little under the weather, but once I get feeling better, things should be back in full force. I should be headed back to New York in a couple weeks, so I’m really excited about that. We’ll see what’s up from there, I guess!
SO-M: What is the one project that you’ve always wanted to do, but have yet to be able to?
CK: I’d love to do broadway…maybe even a touring Broadway show. There’s such a sense of camaraderie between everybody when you do live stage productions, and that’s something that’s really cool to me. It’s such an intimate thing, being up on stage, putting everyone’s talents together to make one amazing product.
SO-M: If you could work with anyone on a project, who would it be and why?
CK: I’d love to work with Jerry Bruckheimer. I’m a huge fan of his work, and I think it’d be such a learning experience for me to be able to work with someone of his talent. And of course, I’d love to do a Kelly Clarkson video…hahaha. Her video concepts are awesome, and I’m a huge fan of hers.
SO-M: What do you feel has been your most important professional accomplishment
to date?
CK: I started off with this dream when I was 5. From the first time I hit the stage, I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, so I think the fact that through everything I’ve been through, I’m still sticking with that same dream. That in itself is probably one of my greatest accomplishments.
SO-M: Who or what would you say has had the biggest influence on your career?
CK: I’d probably have to say God. Things happen for a reason, no matter how much you love or hate that reason at the time, and that at the end of the day, you do what you can to make the world a better place and trust that everything will work out.
SO-M: Who are your favorite musical acts at the moment?
CK: I’ve been a Kelly Clarkson fan since the first time I heard her on "Idol"…I think she’s brilliant. I just heard a couple tracks off of Christina Aguilera’s new album and if they’re any indication, it’s gonna be phenomenal! As for newer artists – I’m really diggin’ Nikki Flores…I just love the tone of her voice. And Josh Hoge – he’s really good too! I have yet to meet him!
SO-M: Favorite TV show?
CK: I don’t really watch a lot of TV, honestly. I got hooked on Laguna Beach for a while, I’m not gonna lie…hahaha. It was one of those shows that I had never planned on watching, and I went over to my friend’s house one night for a dinner party, and we ended up watching an episode, and for some reason, I got hooked. It’s such a different lifestyle than mine, so I think it’s interesting.
SO-M: If you could have a part on any tv show, past or present, what would it be?
CK: Boy Meets World! Hands down! That show will forever be a favorite. Being on that show…I don’t think much would have been able to top that for me. I think that would have been the top of the top for me. Even to meet any of those guys now would be amazing. If anyone reading can line that up, I would love you forever! Hahaha… 😉
SO-M: Favorite movie?
CK: Favorite movie…wow. I’m a huge Jerry Bruckheimer fan…he’s the guy behind Pearl Harbor, Coyote Ugly, Top Gun…and then I still have yet to see “Pirates of the Caribbean 2”, but I hear it’s incredible. And then Office Space is also a classic…just a really funny movie.
SO-M: Favorite book?
CK: I was gonna go with the phone book originally, but I think that’s been overdone…hahaha. I actually just read one of Donald Trump’s books, and that was okay, but from what I hear, I need to get my hands on a copy of the Da Vinci Code. I think I’m the last person in the world to read that book!
SO-M: What’s your most embarrassing moment?
CK: Oh man…hahaha. I can’t believe I’m telling this. Okay, so one day I went into…and public bathrooms are awkward to begin with, let me tell you…lol. I went into the bathroom and they were playing music over the speaker in the bathroom, and I was the only one in there, and I didn’t even realize I was doing it, but I guess I started singing the song, when the actual artist of the song walked in and heard me! Luckily, I had met this person a few times before, and we just laughed it off, but it was definitely awkward…lol. Lesson learned: never sing in bathrooms, even if it’s to yourself, and even if music’s playing because you never know when the artist may walk in!
SO-M: What is one song you could never get tired of listening to?
CK: “One World” by a composer named Mark Hayes. I just heard that song at the perfect time, and it’s stuck with me ever since. It’s gorgeous. Not a lot of people know it, but it’s a phenomenal song. Every time I hear it, I get chills.
SO-M: Out of all the celebrities you’ve met or worked with, who’s your favorite?
CK: I’ve met and worked with so many great people…wow. Y’know, Pink was pretty cool. She really impressed me. Tyler Hilton was pretty rad…and of course Kelly Clarkson. Then, as a lot of you know, I’ve actually become good friends with the Jonas Brothers over the past few months, and they’re not only some of the most talented, but also, by far, the nicest, most down-to-earth guys in the industry. I’m behind those guys 100% and I can’t wait for their album to come out so everyone can hear it!
SO-M: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
CK: In 10 years, gosh. You know what? I just want to be happy. Hopefully in 10 years, I’m doing something I love, with people I love, and hopefully I’ve made a difference in someone’s life along the way. That’s all anybody can ask for.
SO-M: Out of curiousity, how did you hear about Shine On Media?
CK: I actually heard about you guys through a friend of mine that suggested I check ya out! I decided to take her up on it, and the rest is history!
SO-M: And our friend samantha would like to know if you’re Calvin Klein in disguise…lol
CK: That’s a secret, of course!!! 😉
SO-M: Thanks so much for letting us do this and for visiting the site. Best of Luck in Everything!
CK: Thank YOU for being so amazingly supportive! I know this is just the beginning of a lasting friendship. Thanks for everything! I hope you stay in touch!
