Freeform’s new show “Cruel Summer” finally had a release date!
The first look at the psychological thriller was unveiled today at the Winter TCA and it has us so excited. The show comes from executive producer Jessica Biel and stars Olivia Holt and Chiara Aurelia. It follows two young women – Kate Wallis (Holt), the popular girl with a charmed life who one day goes missing, and Jeanette Turner (Aurelia), the nerdy wannabe who is accused of being connected to Kate’s disappearance.
All signs point to Jeanette’s guilt, but is Kate really who she seems to be? Set over three summers and told through shifting points of view, the series challenges perception and follows how one girl can go from being a sweet outlier to the most despised person in America.
The show will keep you guessing as to which girl to side with and we cannot wait to see the whole mystery unfold. The series also stars Michael Landes, Froy Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, Allius Barnes, Blake Lee and Brooklyn Sudano. “Cruel Summer” comes from studio eOne and was created by Bert V. Royal. Tia Napolitano serves as showrunner. Executive producers include Napolitano, Royal and Iron Ocean Productions’ Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple.
The series will premiere April 20 at 9pm on Freeform. New episodes will air Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. EDT/PDT. If you want the chance to see the first episode early and see a cast Q&A, you’ll want to pick up a ticket for SXSW. Get all the info here.
