Camila Cabello is ready to release her debut album as a solo artist this Friday.
To celebrate, the 20-year-old stopped by the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon last night to perform her latest single “Never Be the Same.” She performed the song with a mesmerizing galaxy backdrop and she sounded amazing.
Cabello’s album, Camila, is her first since leaving Fifth Harmony. In a new interview with the New York Times, she is opening up for the first time about why she left the shade 5H threw her way at the MTV VMAs during their performance. It turns out that her duet with Shawn Mendes created tension among the group as it was the first time a member of 5H had released music under their own name. Camila wanted to continue to explore those options and work on a solo album while staying in the group but she said the other members shut her out.
After she left the group, Fifth Harmony took a jab at her during their VMA performance which Cabello wasn’t expecting. “It definitely hurt my feelings,” she said. “I wasn’t expecting it, I wasn’t prepared for it — especially because at that point I’d moved on from it. I was just like, ‘What? Why?’” She continued, “I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life. I don’t like holding onto the past, especially when it’s stuff that, in my opinion, is just petty.”
Despite all the drama, both Cabello and Fifth Harmony are doing well and we can’t wait to listen to Camila when it releases tomorrow.
