Just days after the announcement of the nominees for the 2018 Golden Globes, the actors have revealed their favorites in movies and TV for the year and if we learned anything it’s that this year’s Oscar race will be unpredictable.
The Golden Globes snubbed movies like The Big Sick & Get Out and TV shows like “Veep” but the Screen Actors Guild chose to celebrate them. There were plenty of other surprises and snubs as Golden Globe favorites Call Me By Your Name, The Post, Dunkirk & The Shape of Water failed to land Outstanding Performance by a Cast nominations which are usually good indicators of who will take home Best Picture at the Oscars.
In the acting categories, Jake Gyllenhaal and Daniel Day Lewis were shut out as Denzel Washington snagged a nomination. Steve Carell surprised with a nomination for Best Supporting Actor edging out frontrunner Armie Hammer who was snubbed. On the TV side, “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel” was loved by the Golden Globes but did not receive any recognition when it comes to SAG nominations. Netflix’s “Glow” however earned multiple nominations and “Orange Is the New Black” landed a nomination beating out fellow comedies “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” & “Modern Family.” We’re still waiting for “The Good Place” to land a nomination.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards will air on January 21, 2018 and for the first time it will have a host. Kristen Bell will lead the ceremony which will also for the first time feature all female presenters for the awards. Men will still be involved in the ceremony when it comes to presenting clips from the best picture and TV show categories.
