After lots of rumors, it’s official – season 2 of “Big Little Lies” is happening.
Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon & David E. Kelley will be returning for the second season which will explore the “malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting” according to HBO.
The second season will be seven episodes and since it covered all of the book it was based on, this time around it will be partially based on another story by the same author, Liane Moriarty. Kelley will write all seven scripts and Andrea Arnold is set to take over as director. Besides Witherspoon and Kidman, no other actors have been confirmed for season 2, but negotiations are underway to see the return of Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, Laura Dern, and more.
“I’m thrilled to be bringing back this talented team of artists,” said Reese Witherspoon in a statement. “It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them.”
Kidman added, “This is inspired by the overwhelming response by audiences around the world, conceived once again by Liane Moriarty, realized by David Kelley and now in the hands of visionary filmmaker Andrea Arnold. What a journey this has been.”
We cannot wait to see what season 2 of “Big Little Lies” brings. Until then, we’ll just enjoy seeing the cast hit up awards season because they recently nabbed some Critics Choice nominations and are a sure thing to be nominated for some Golden Globes next week.
