Season 23 of “Dancing with the Stars” is off and running and it was definitely one interesting premiere.
While there some lows like Ryan Lochte being rushed on stage by protesters, there were definitely some big highs and those included Laurie Hernandez. The Olympic gymnast closed out the show with a Cha Cha to Bonnie McKee’s “American Girl” and everything about it as a first dance was perfect.
Val and Laurie have amazing chemistry and it was apparent right off the bat when the two looked at each other and smiled. They followed that up with some high energy and fancy footwork that definitely proved why they are the frontrunners of this season. While the judges held back giving anyone above a 9 tonight, they did throw out a few 8s and most of those went to Laurie and Val who scored a 31 tying them with Sharna and James Hinchcliffe for first.
While Laurie’s Final Five teammates couldn’t be there, some of them took to twitter to show their support. Watch Laurie’s full dance below and be sure to tune in next Monday & Tuesday for even more dancing. It’s TV week!
