The US Women’s Gymnastics Team, aka the Final Five, lit up the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards but many noticed they were down a member. Before the show on Sunday, Gabby Douglas tweeted out a photo of herself in bed saying, “Out of hospital & resting comfortably! #FinalFive sad I can’t be with u 2 present tonite.”
In interviews from the event, the rest of the girls – Aly Raisman, Madison Kocian, Laurie Hernandez & Simone Biles – sent their well wishes to Gabby and while they didn’t know details on Gabby’s illness they did say it had something to do with her mouth and a possible allergic reaction. When they took the stage to present Best Female Video of the Year to Beyonce, they made sure to give some love to their missing teammate.
Now, a few days later, Gabby has shared an update on her health and it looks like she ended up having to have surgery. Along with a pic in a dentist’s chair, Gabby said, “Hey guys! Just wanted to let you know that I’m doing ok! I had a complication from a prior injury that caused a cyst to grow on a bone in my mouth. Got it removed and feeling much better now! Thanks for all your concerns and prayers and HUGE thank you to the doctors that have taken care of me these last four days!” She also added that she still has to get her wisdom teeth out. Wisdom teeth surgery on top of what she already went through? Girl is a trooper!
