At long last, Joe Jonas is returning to music!
Sure, the middle JoBro has kept busy DJing since the Jonas Brothers decided to part ways, but now he’s back in front of the mic singing with his new band DNCE. Joe serves as the front man and he’s accompanied by drummer Jack Lawless (who was part of the JB band), the amazing guitarist JinJoo Lee, and Cole Whittle from Semi-Precious Weapons. The group debuted their first song, “Cake By the Ocean,” today on Z100 in New York and we are loving it!
The song has an uptempo funky beat that is sure to make you get up and, well, dance. We also love the range in Joe’s voice. He’s giving Nick Jonas’ falsetto a run for its money. So how did the title of the song come about?
According to Complex, the song came about when Joe overheard producers Mattman & Robin say they wanted to get some cake by the ocean. They actually meant the drink Sex on the Beach, but the title inspired him to begin crafting a new song. “That song was a total breakthrough,” Jonas told Complex. “Once we came up with ‘Cake by the Ocean,’ everything was electric.”
