stitchers-whywatch-053115Get ready for something awesome to invade ABC Family!

The channel’s brand new show “Stitchers” premieres this Tuesday right after fan favorite “Pretty Little Liars” and it’s one of our favorite new shows this season. So what exactly is “Stitchers”? “Stitchers,” follows Kirsten, a young woman recruited into a covert government agency to be ‘stitched’ into the minds of the recently deceased, using their memories to investigate murders and decipher mysteries that otherwise would have gone to the grave. Working alongside Kirsten is Cameron, a brilliant neuroscientist whose passion for the program is evident in his work. The secret program is headed by Maggie, a skilled veteran of covert operations, and includes Linus, a socially immature bioelectrical engineer and communications technician. Kirsten’s roommate, Camille, a gifted computer science grad student, is also recruited to use her skills to assist Kirsten in her new role as a ‘stitcher.’

Now, you may be thinking, wow, that sounds confusing? Or what makes this different from shows like “iZombie” or something like “Fringe”? Well, those are all valid questions and we’re here to give you 5 reasons why you should give “Stitchers” a chance.

1. It’s something brand new for ABC Family
ABC Family is known for its dramas and more recently, comedies. Most focus on family dynamics like “Switched at Birth,” “The Fosters,” “Melissa & Joey,” & “Baby Daddy.” There there’s shows like “Pretty Little Liars” which bring a fun mystery element to the channel. “Stitchers” is a combination of both and it’s the first procedural drama for ABC Family. This show has a great “family” dynamic between all the characters plus the mystery and suspense of PLL, but also some great comedic banter like “Baby Daddy.” Basically, it’s everything you love from ABC Family all wrapped up into one show. Also, it reminds us of something you might even see on another network like ABC, CBS or even the CW. Oh, and also the concept is just fascinating.

We had a chance to check out the premiere episode early and one thing we loved was the writing. There is a lot of fast and witty talking which reminds us some of the pace of “Gilmore Girls,” and we love it. There’s a scene between Cameron and Kirsten right after they first meet which Cameron calls their interview and it’s fantastic. It helps establish the relationship between these two characters but it also displays their smarts and wits. Oh, and Allison Scagliotti has some amazing lines and is hilarious.

3. It makes science look cool (which it is, of course!)
The show relies a lot on science and technology. Granted, stitching isn’t actually real, but if it was, sign us up. All the main characters on the show are strong when it comes to science and tech and it’s refreshing to see a show that makes those skills look cool. We hope it encourages more kids to get excited about learning.

Usually strong female TV characters have been hard to find, but in the past few years, they’ve started popping up more and more and we love that. The three female leads on “Stitchers” – Maggie, Kirsten & Camille – are all smart, strong, confident and well rounded characters who can definitely hold there own. No weaklings here! (Oh, and yes, the guys are pretty cute too if that is important to you)

5. There’s an equally as awesome app to go along with the show
If you love the show, then you will love the “Stitchers: Hack the Case” app. The app is a companion to the show and allows you to test out your stitching skills to help solve cases. We’ve been playing it and we are addicted. It definitely will help you learn to pay more attention to detail. Just how observant are you really? Plus, if you happen to get your hands on one of the virtual reality viewers, it will make the game even more fun. Oh, and did we mention that those who succeed in solving the case will be entered into a sweepstakes for the chance to win a trip to Los Angeles where they will have an action figure created in their own image. ABC Family will be distributing smartphone virtual reality viewers to enhance the experience via a number of different giveaways. You can get the app on Stitchers.com, at the Google Play store and the Apple App store. We’ve been playing the game thanks to ABC Family and their “Hack the Case” blogger challenge and we’re loving it. We’ve been tweeting about our progress, so be sure to follow us @shineonmedia.

So, be sure to tune into the premiere of “Stitchers” on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 9:00PM ET/PT. You don’t want to miss it!
