It looks like The Maze Runner has finally broken the YA novel box office curse!
As of late, many YA book-to-movie adaptations have failed to make a dent at the box office including Beautiful Creatures, Vampire Academy, The Giver & The Mortal Instruments. Many thought that The Maze Runner would meet the same fate, but it looks like they’re wrong!
The Dylan O’Brien led film has so far opened to $32.5 million in North America and over $81.5 million worldwide. It’s off to a great start and production on the sequel, The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials has already been set to begin in October.
Over the weekend, the sequel’s release date was announced as Sept. 18, 2015. We definitely can’t wait to see the sequel. We had the chance to chat with Dexter Darden who plays Frypan in the film about making the movie and his excitement to be back for the sequel.
Did you see The Maze Runner this weekend? What did you think?
