Take a peek at the brand new poster for The Giver!
The new poster debuted over at HuffPo today and the poster follows the theme of the individual posters which can be seen here.
The poster shows Brenton Thwaites & Odeya Rush front and center and in color with some spots of gray still seeping in. In the background you can see Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep in grey staring on with the tagline “Search for Truth. Find Freedom.”
It has been 20 years since Lois Lowry released her 1994 Newbery Medal award-winning novel that has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. The book will be released to coincide with the movie with a brand new forward from the author. You can read the whole thing here. In the forward, she discusses the journey of writing the book and having a movie made. Here’s a couple moments we liked:
“Will it have the same effect as a film? It’s hard to know. A book is such an individual and private thing. The reader brings his or her own history and beliefs and concerns, and reads in solitude, creating each scene from his own imagination as he does.
A movie, by its nature, puts it all out there, makes it visual. It’s what I love about film, actually: the composition of each scene, the lighting, the color… or lack of color. But film must incorporate details that a reader might have pictured in another way…”
She ends the forward by saying, “The important thing is that a film doesn’t obliterate a book. The movie is here now. But the book hasn’t gone away. It has simply grown up, grown larger, and begun to glisten in a new way.”
What do you think of the new poster? The Giver is in theaters August 15.
