zacefron-parkland-073013Zac Efron tries to regain his composure in this new still from the upcoming drama Parkland.

The film follows the events of Nov. 22, 1963, the day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. After the motorcade shooting in Dallas’ Dealey Plaza, Kennedy was rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His killer, Lee Harvey Oswald, died in the same hospital two days later after being shot in the stomach.

Zac takes on the role of one of the rookie doctors on duty during President Kennedy’s assassination by Lee Harvey Oswald. In another new still, we see him alongside Marcia Gay Harden who plays the head nurse in the trauma room.

“This is a movie about the ground truth from the ground level,” writer-director Landesman told USA TODAY about the film due out September 20. “What surprised me was the power and poignancy of those who survived that day and the three that followed — the heroism, the instincts and the pathos of those swept up in this tsunami. This is an event that happened to individuals.”

Parkland also stars Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Giamatti, Tom Welling, and Jacki Weaver and will make its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
