We are deeply saddened to report that “Glee” star Cory Monteith has passed away.
The Hollywood Reporter was one of the first sources to confirm the tragic news on Saturday afternoon. The 31-year-old was found dead in his room at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel. He was found at noon Saturday on the hotel’s 21st floor, Vancouver police said in a news conference. He checked into the hotel July 6, and was expected to check out Saturday. When he missed his checkout time, hotel staff went to his room and discovered his body.
Police believe he was alone when he died and no cause of death was given. It was ruled that no foul play was suspected. An autopsy is set for Monday to determine the cause of death. Monteith has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction in the past and checked himself into rehab in March of this year.
“We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss,” representatives for the actor told THR in a statement.
Glee executive producers, producers 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Co. said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
