While we’re bummed that Brenton Thwaites lost out on roles in Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars, he is set to bring another one of our favorite childhood books to the big screen.
The Australian heartthrob has landed the lead role opposite Jeff Bridges in The Giver according to Deadline. The film is based on Lois Lowry’s 1993 dystopian children’s novel and Brenton will play Jonas, who has been aged up for the film.
Jonas is selected to become the next Receiver of Memory in the heavily ordered and seemingly perfect society. He bonds with the previous Receiver (Bridges) and discovers the lies that dominate their society and a more independent way of living.
The film is scheduled to start filming in South Africa in the fall. Brenton can be seen next as the Prince in Disney’s Maleficent with Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning as well as Oculus and the indie Son of a Gun with Ewan McGregor.
