Demi Lovato stopped by Good Morning America on Thursday to make a big announcement.
The singer lost her biological father to cancer this past week and she told Robin Roberts, “I’m handling it ok. My father and I didn’t have the most ideal relationship, but at the end of the day he’s still my dad and I grew up with him. He was a wonderful person and it’s difficult but I’m handling it ok.”
Demi’s big announcement was that she’s launching a scholarship program. “I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. I’ve dealt with mental illnesses but my father also dealt with mental illness. He wasn’t able to function very well in society and that happens to a lot of people and this week I’m launching the Lovato Treatmant Scholarship Program.”
Demi will be working with CAST Recovery to help one person at a time and she will pay for their treatment. The Lovato Treatment Scholarship will cover expenses for someone struggling with mental health and/or addiction issues, including the costs for one of CAST Recovery’s transitional living homes, as well as the clinical services provided at CAST’s outpatient program.
