It’s a big day for Shailene Woodley movie news!
The star’s Entertainment Weekly cover for Divergent was just released as was the trailer for her new movie The Spectacular Now, which you can watch below.
The movie follows Sutter Keely (Miles Teller) who lives in the now. It’s a good place for him. A high school senior, charming and self-possessed, he’s the life of the party, loves his job at a men’s clothing store, and has no plans for the future. A budding alcoholic, he’s never far from his supersized, whisky-fortified thirst-master cup. But after being dumped by his girlfriend, Sutter gets drunk and wakes up on a lawn with Aimee Finicky (Shailene Woodley) hovering over him. She’s different: the “nice girl” who reads science fiction and doesn’t have a boyfriend. While Amy has dreams of a future, Sutter lives in the impressive delusion of a spectacular now, yet somehow, they’re drawn together.
Another big movie that Shailene recently filmed scenes for was The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Unfortunately, it looks like we won’t get to see them! That’s right, Shailene revealed in her EW interview that her scenes have been cut from the highly anticipated sequel.
Of course I’m bummed,” she tells EW in an exclusive statement. “But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason. MJ only appeared in a few scenes and I wouldn’t trade the experience of working with Andrew and Emma for three days on set for the world. Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing MJ until the next film.”
Also, in regards to Divergent, did you know Shailene almost turned the role down? “My agents were like, ‘are you f—ing crazy?’ But I said if this movie is successful, things will change and I don’t want that.”
Which of Shailene’s upcoming projects are you most excited for?
