Emma Watson became a household name thanks to the Harry Potter franchise and she might be signing on for another fantasy franchise.
According to Variety, the UK star and her Harry Potter producer David Heyman are teaming up for The Queen of the Tearling.
The project is still searching for a director and writer, but Warner Bros. acquired the rights to the book and will distribute.
The franchise will be based on Erika Johansen’s fantasy trilogy and the 19-year-old female lead was partly inspired by a speech the author heard Barack Obama give in 2007. The trilogy has been described as a female “Game of Thrones” and the book is set three centuries after an environmental catastrophe when a malevolent Red Queen holds considerable power. Harper Collins will publish the trilogy beginning in 2014.
Emma can be seen this summer in The Bling Ring and This Is the End.
