Austin Mahone strikes a few poses for his feature in the June/July issue of Details magazine.
The 17-year-old Youtube sensation is making a name for himself collaborating with the likes of Flo-Rida and opening for Taylor Swift on various dates of her sold out Red tour. With the massive celebrity of Justin Bieber, it’s inevitable for any young male floppy-haired singer to be compared to the 19-year-old and Austin finds it both flattering and annoying.
“It’s flattering to be compared to him. It’s cool. But I don’t want people to see me as a copy of Justin Bieber,” Austin shared. “Sometimes I can’t breathe without being compared to him. If I wear a certain hat: Justin Bieber. Wear a certain shirt: Justin Bieber. It’s so annoying.”
While Justin has been having a hard time in the press lately, Austin is the complete opposite. He’s a sweet mama’s boy who thinks the taste of alcohol is “disgusting” and he hates it. What about girls? “Yeah, I’m a virgin,” he told the mag without a trace of embarrassment or calculation. “I think it’s important to wait until you find that special person and not have it be just any random girl. I’m here because of God, and He has a plan for me.” While he doesn’t have a girlfriend at the moment, he does find one famous young lady attractive. “I think Kendall Jenner is really cute.”
Austin made it big first making funny videos with his pal and then decided to post covers of songs even though he had no experience. He would take a look at the top 40 and sing them for the camera. “People would go on YouTube and search for those songs. That’s how I got my views. I’d post two or three songs a week.”
Things have definitely changed a lot for Austin since singing in his bedroom and we have a feeling it’s only up from here!
