Say hello to Disney Channel’s next big thing!
The network is looking at 17-year-old newcomer Dove Cameron as their next big star according to Variety. Dove has already landed the lead role in the DCOM “Cloud 9” which also stars Luke Benward and is executive produced by Ashley Tisdale and Shaun White.
She will also play double duty in the new sitcom “Liv & Maddie.” The new projects will be revealed next week in New York City at Disney’s upfront event.
In the sitcom “Liv & Maddie,” Dove will play identical twins — one, a popular television star whose hit show has just finished its run, and Maddie, an outstanding student and school basketball phenomenon whose popularity is on the rise until Liv makes a triumphant return to their Wisconsin high school. Complicating their lives even more is that their parents both work at the school. So this reminds us a little of “Hannah Montana” meets…maybe “The Parent Trap”? Joey Bragg, and newcomer Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Benjamin King, Kali Rocha will co-star.
“Cloud 9” revolves around a prima donna snowboarder who is unceremoniously dropped from her team and forced to train with a snowboarding champ (Luke Benward) who’s struggling after a career-ending injury and humiliated by a wipeout video that’s gone viral. We’re thinking a mini The Cutting Edge in the world of snowboarding. Cool! Kiersey Clemons, Mike Manning, Patrick Fabian, Amy Farrington, and Jeffrey Nordling also star.
Disney Channel has been known to launch many stars from Justin Timberlake & Britney Spears to Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan to Shia Labeouf to Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus. The latest stars have included Debby Ryan, Bridgit Mendler, Ross Lynch, China Anne McClain and Olivia Holt.
