cam-degrassi-022313“Degrassi” fans were in for quite a shock last night, and if you haven’t seen the episode, you might not want to read this post.

In its 12 seasons, “Degrassi: The Next Generation” has covered just about everything…except one big issue that has become prevalent in teens in recent years. Last night in “Bittersweet Symphony Part 2,” the current cast faced its most emotional episode yet.

In part 1, viewers saw fan favorite Cam (Dylan Everett) go through a lot of emotional ups and downs and in part 2, his friends had to deal with finding out he committed suicide. In the beginning of last night’s episode, Eli & Clare arrive at school early and when Eli catches a glimpse of the greenhouse, he tells Clare to get the principal and call 911.

A little later in the episode, Principal Simpson reveals to Maya and Katie that Cam killed himself. Throughout the episode, each of the different characters react to the news in different ways. Some are in denial, some blame themselves and others are angry.

We have to say, the show handled this topic very well and after the show aired, MuchMusic aired a special episode of MuchTalks to create a forum for everyone to discuss the episode. “Degrassi” also uploaded two videos giving you an inside look into the table read for the episode and how the cast first reacted to the news.

We have to give major props to Dylan Everett for his portrayal of Cam. He tweeted after the episode, “hanks for all the love and support guys, its truly the best feeling knowing you help so many people just by doing what you love.”

If you or anyone you know is going through similar issues like Cam, please talk to someone and get help. Click inside to see another look at the table read & watch the part 1 of the episode here and part 2 here.
