It was just announced that 13-year-old Sabrina Carpenter has landed the role of Maya Fox, who is the best friend of Cory & Topanga Matthews’ daughter Riley, played by Rowan Blanchard.

NEWS: “Boy Meets World” Executive Producer Talks “Girl Meets World”

Maya is described as an “only child and has never known her father, which makes her relationship with both Riley and Cory Matthews very important to her. She is a wonderful student of life and absolutely magnetic in attracting the people in her sphere. A little bit edgy, she is as fiercely loyal to Riley as Riley is to her.” Definitely reminds us a little of Shawn minus the wonderful student part.

Sources tell TVLine that Disney execs were first impressed by Sabrina when she was cast in the Disney XD pilot, “Gulliver Quinn,” with Jon Heder. Besides being an actress, Sabrina is also signed to Hollywood Records and her first single “Smile” was on the Disney Fairies CDs, Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust.

Sabrina can also be heard as a voice on the “Sofia The First” TV series, seen in “The Goodwin Games” and she will guest star on “Austin & Ally.” She shared her excitement on twitter saying, “ITS OFFICIAL!!! BEYOND EXCITED.”

“Girl Meets World” is set to begin production next month for consideration on Disney Channel’s 2013-14 schedule.

We had the chance to chat with Sabrina a few months back at the “Sofia the First” premiere. Check that out below! EW has also revealed the character breakdowns for three more characters on the show including Cory & Topanga’s son! Read them inside…

– Elliott Matthews, 13. Cory and Topanga’s son. This guy will start the series as a “thinking man’s jock.” He’s described as “good looking, well built, funny and insightful in his observations. Good hearted except for his dedication toward using Riley (Blanchard) as his wrestling practice dummy. His parents worry that he has inherited the ‘Eric Matthews Algernon’ gene and will lose intelligence as time goes by.” That “Eric Matthews Algernon” bit is a two-part reference to a character in the original series who got dumber as seasons passed and the classic novel with a similar theme, Flowers for Algernon.

– Tristan Friar, 12-13. An Austin, Texas transplant who’s a “cowboy in the city.” His description: “He seems actually possessed of ethics, common sense and a value system making him immediately alien to everybody else except Riley, who believes it’s the value system that attracts her to want to be his friend even though he’s too good looking for her to look at.”

– Shamus Farkle, 12-13: This is the show’s resident genius. “Future world ruler. Riley’s rebellious best friend Maya is his nemesis, Riley gets between them to save his life. Farkle is wildly attached and protective of both girls and loves equally that Riley doesn’t make him miserable and Maya does.”
