Shealeigh may be only 13 years old, but boy can she sing!
Shealeigh was the winner of last year’s Radio Disney’s N.B.T. contest, and if you’ve heard her latest single “Strangely Beautiful,” then you know why.
We had the chance to chat with Shealeigh recently about her new song, her musical influences, and what three people she’d love to hang out with.
You just released your new single, “Strangely Beautiful.” What was the inspiration for that song? I wrote it about someone who constantly has an adoring crowd, falling in love with their rockstar image, but when they get offstage and they’re not recognized the same way, I still notice them as being, oh so, beautiful, because my adoration is more than just outer beauty.
Can we expect a music video for this song? That is most definitely the plan!
Since winning N.B.T., how has your life changed? I think this entire experience has helped me grow a lot as a performer and singer, for sure. Before NBT, I was just a girl trying to sing anywhere she could, but now I’m traveling to all of these brilliant cities, doing what I love in front of some really fantastic people and I don’t think I could be any happier.
What can we expect from your upcoming music? Is an album in the works? I think upcoming music will be something very different! A lot of organic and acoustic music is really what I’m going for these days. An album isn’t in the works currently, but that’s definitely a goal of mine.
You recently played at the Roxy with Shane Harper. What was that experience like? I had such a great time! The Roxy is such a legendary place and I was beyond honored to sing on that stage. The crowd was so much fun and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Who would be your dream tour & collaboration? Taylor Swift most definitely!
Who are your biggest musical influences? My favorites of all time would be Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Adele, Beyonce, Ingrid Michaelson, Coldplay and Amy Winehouse.
What are your favorite songs/artists at the moment? Favorite song right now would be “Enchanted” by Taylor Swift and lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of Lana Del Rey!
Do you remember the first time you heard your own song on the radio? I sure do! It was the beginning of NBT and they premiered “What Can I Say?” on Radio Disney. I was sitting with my mom and a couple of my friends, waiting for those first violins to sound and when they did, we were dancing like fools! 🙂
Summer is almost here. What do you like to do in your down time? Any summer plans? I’m so excited! Summer will be grand, I’m sure! I just can’t wait to be able to hangout with my friends and finally work on more new music!
If you could hang out with any 3 people, dead or alive, who would they be? Really good question! John Lennon would be really interesting, of course. Taylor Swift is my hero, so I think that would be a bunch of fun. Then, probably Adele, because in all of her interviews that I’ve seen, she’s been hilarious.
Where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years? Still singing it up! I hope to have released an album, possibly owning a Grammy and hopefully I’ll be on tour!
Do you have any message you want to send to your fans? Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your beautiful support. I can’t even tell you how much it means to me. I love you all so very much!
