After many rumors, Tom Hooper’s big screen version of Les Miserables has found its Eponine.
Taylor Swift, Lea Michele, and Evan Rachel Wood are just some of the big names who have been rumored to be taking on the role, but they’ve been beaten out by stage-vet Samantha Barks. Taylor was reportedly offered the role, but we wonder if maybe working on her fourth album caused scheduling conflicts.
According to THR, Samantha will reprise the role of Eponine in the big screen version alongside Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway. She has already played the role twice, once in a 2010 London production and again at the 2011 Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert at the 02 Arena.
THR reports Samantha learned she got the role when theatre producer Cameron Mackintosh appeared at the curtain call of her current gig in Oliver! at Manchester Palace and announced the news. She tweeted out tonight, “Most incredible moment of my life!!!!”
The movie is scheduled the film for release on Dec. 7, 2012. Congrats to Samantha! Fans might recognize her best from co-starring with rumored ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas in the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert.
