Taylor Swift Releases an Early Christmas Present – A New Song From ‘The Hunger Games’ Soundtrack

Just call her Taylor Claus!! Taylor Swift revealed a big surprise to fans ont witter on Thursday night – a new song!

Not only is the song, called “Safe and Sound,” new and features the Civil Wars, but it’s from the soundtrack to one of the most anticipated movies of 2012 – The Hunger Games! Yes, you heard right, Taylor Swift and The Hunger Games!

Taylor tweeted, “Something I’ve been VERY excited about for a VERY long time is going to be happening VERY soon. (and I’m not referring to Christmas).”

About an hour later, she tweeted out the single cover and wrote, “And this is it, the big surprise… Go get it!” Right after the release, #safeandsound was trending on twitter.

“Safe and Sound” is a somber ballad and quite different from what you’ve heard Taylor sing below. We can’t wait to see what scene of the movie it’s used in. Our guess is – SPOILER if you haven’t read the books – the scene where Rue dies and Katniss covers her with flowers. Here’s some of the lyrics: “Just close your eyes / The sun is going down / You’ll be all right / No one can hurt you / In the morning light / You and I’ll be safe and sound.”

Pick up your copy of “Safe and Sound” here. We can’t wait to see what other artists and songs end up on The Hunger Games soundtrack. Do you like “Safe and Sound”?
