Complete List of the 2012 Golden Globe Nominations

0

Hot off the announcement of the SAG Award nominations, the 2012 Golden Globe nominees have been announced and they make up for some of what the SAGs failed to recognize, at least in the movie categories. Don’t get us wrong though, there are some major snubs going on at the GGs (Where’s Melissa McCarthy?!), but it does give more of our favorite performances of the year a shot with the division of drama and comedy.

In the movie section, The Help will go head-to-head with The Descendants in the Best Motion Picture (Drama) category alongside The Ides of March, Martin Scorsese’s Hugo, Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, and Moneyball.

The Help also received nods in the Best Performance by an Actress (Drama) category, thanks to Viola Davis, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, for Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer’s work.

Ryan Gosling had a great year and it shows with his double nominations for Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Ides of March. If it were possible to give him a third for Drive, we definitely would have. Shailene Woodley earned her first nomination for her breakout role in The Descendants, however ultimately bumping fan favorite Melissa McCarthy out of the running for Best Supporting Actress for Bridesmaids.

In TV, many favorites earned nods but many were snubbed. We are so excited that Zooey Deschanel received a nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series – Comedy for her work on “New Girl,” but wish that Kyle Chandler would have been given a nod for his portrayal of Eric Taylor on “Friday Night Lights.” C’mon HFPA, he received a SAG nomination! Let FNL live a little longer.

Another surprise to us is the nomination of Johnny Galecki for “Big Bang Theory” in Best Performance By An Actor In A Television Series – Comedy Or Musical but no nod for his award-favorite co-star Jim Parsons. We are happy Johnny is getting recognition but also a little stumped. Also notably missing, nominations for the leads of “Modern Family” and “Glee.” Sofia Vergara and Eric Stonestreet are the only castmembers of “Modern Family” to garner a nomination in the supporting categories. Wasn’t Eric considered a lead by the SAGs?

The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by British comic Ricky Gervais, will take place on January 15 in Los Angeles.
