The 3rd annual Girl Prep Conference was announced today by The Young Women’s Empowerment Network, Inc. The conference will take place May 1, 2010 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel. The interactive empowerment conference was created as a response to increased community concern for early intervention in the lives of disadvantaged teen and tween girls aged 10 to 13 years old.
200 inner-city girls from the Los Angeles area will be invited to attend the one-day conference which includes a meet-and-greet with celebrities, live music, lunch, games and gifting to name a few. The event is sponsored by In a Perfect World and will feature workshops that include self-esteem building, team building, leadership, youth engagement and violence prevention. Tamala Jones from “Castle” will serve as the keynote speaker.
GIRL PREP was created to motivate and enhance the abilities of young women; elicit open and safe interactive dialogue between facilitators and participants; empower the participants to make realistic self-assessments in their lives, and develop their goal-setting skills for personal, educations and professional achievement. The conference will promote community activism and leadership and give girls a greater voice and access to opportunities and organizations in their communities.
