Vanessa Hudgens gives a big smile onstage as she accepts her award for Female Star of Tomorrow at ShoWest earlier this week.

Vanessa was also at ShoWest promoting her new movie, Beastly, with co-stars Neil Patrick Harris & Alex Pettyfer. The movie is a modern-day take on the “Beauty and the Beast” tale where a New York teen is transformed into a hideous monster in order to find true love.

Vanessa also caught up with MTV News about another upcoming movie she has, Sucker Punch.

She shared, “I’m very excited about it because I finally get to be an extreme badass and kick butt.” In the flick, Hudgens plays Blondie, a young woman who is institutionalized by her evil stepfather. As a way to cope she enters her own reality where she comes up with a plan to escape from the facility. The film may be coming out in 3-D even though it wasn’t shot in the format. “I think it might be [coming out in 3-D] … actually, we didn’t shoot it for 3-D,” she said. “And I just found out the other day. I’m just excited to know that when I throw my tomahawk, it’s going right in your face.”

Hudgens doesn’t just get to play with tomahawks — there are also very big guns. “There were so many [scenes that I love],” she said. “I get to shoot a .50-cal gun, which is a gun that’s on the back of a tank that’s in the Army. It’s intense. It’s just the most thrilling thing a person can ever do is shoot that gun.”
