Corbin Bleu Makes His Broadway Debut

Corbin Bleu made his Broadway debut last night in In the Heights. The “High School Musical” alum plays Usnavi and will be in the musical through April 25. The musical tells the universal story of a vibrant community in Manhattan’s Washington Heights – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

Corbin recently chatted with MTV and the NY Daily News about his new role. He shared, “I grew up in Brooklyn around all Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, so we were the only Italians on the block. I grew up eating [the cuisine]. I grew up with these characters, so it’s a very real thing for me. I don’t think there could be a better show to make a Broadway debut in than ‘In the Heights.’ ”
