High
School Musical 2 splashes onto DVD
By Lisa H.
Many people were skeptical as to whether or not "High School Musical 2" would
be able to live up to the success of the first movie. The first movie had it
all: fun music, cute actors/actresses and a typical storyline. Were Kenny Ortega
and the crew able to live up to the name of "High School Musical"?
"High School Musical 2" takes the musical to a whole new level. The songs have
a more diverse style and showcase all the main members of the cast instead.
Zac Efron's "Bet On It" shows a more R&B side while "I Don't Dance" incorporates
swing. The songs also incorporate very catch dance numbers, a huge step up from
the dances in the first film. The story line is very typical. Spending the summer
at a country club and losing sight in what really matters most. Zac Efron once
again takes on the lead role of Troy, the good looking basketball star and Vanessa
Hudgens plays his girlfriend, Gabriella. The two share some moments in the movie
but it's the final duet that really makes them shine. The supporting cast: Ashley
Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Ryne Sanborn, Oleysa Rulin
and Kaycee Stroh all make strong performances as well. While the movie is very
fun and "summery," there's still something about the first movie and sets it
above the second installment.
The DVD comes with some great extras including bloopers. Everyone loves bloopers
and you'll get to see Zac, Ashley and the gang as they mess up lines, throw
props and more. Also included on the DVD is the music sequence "Humuhumunukunukuapua'a."
The song isn't that great, but the sequence does show some development for Lucas
Grabeel's character. Also included are some internation music videos. The movie
is fun, wholesome and will definitely have you dancing. Can't wait to see what's
in store for "High School Musical 3."
