-David Archuleta gives a big smile while holding up his new book, Chords of Strength at Bookends in New Jersey on Tuesday afternoon.

David’s memoir hit stores yesterday and the signing kicked off his book tour. David chatted with AZ Central about his memoir and “American Idol”:

On being afraid he wouldn’t sing again: I was really scared. Music is the only thing I really felt passionate about. … I was told I could have the surgery, which is really risky, or I could see what voice therapy could do for me after a couple of years. The doctors told me the surgery could permanently damage my throat. So I decided to go to therapy. … I learned that it was up to me to do the effort and put the work into it if I wanted it. It totally paid off.

On what “Idol” will be like without Simon Cowell: It’s going to totally change the dynamics of the show. But like Simon said, the viewers really make the show because they’re the ones who are voting. They’re choosing who goes on and that’s what’s really the magic of the show.

-”American Idol” alum David Archuleta performed at BritWeek’s 2010 Charity Event: Save The Children and Virgin Unite held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Thursday evening.

The event is an annual celebration of the accomplishments of Brits in the entertainment industry. David performed John Lennon’s “Imagine” as well as an acapella version of “Prayer for the Children.” Check out a clip below.

David had a great time at the event and tweeted: Had such a great night at the event! Morgan Freeman was there and I’m bummed I didn’t get to catch him! He’s amazing lol.

-”American Idol” alum David Archuleta returned to the show on Wednesday night to perform the John Lennon hit “Imagine.”

It was a Lennon/McCartney themed week on the hit show, with the contestants performing songs like “Hey Jude,” “All My Lovin’” and “Come Together.” In a pretty shocking results show, Aaron Kelly, Andrew Garcia & Michael Lynch were in the bottom 3. Michael earned the lowest number of votes and sang to save himself.

It worked. The judges unanimously decided to use their one save for the season. That means 2 contestants will be going home next week.

-Last month, many stars gathered to record “Somos El Mundo,” the Spanish version of “We Are the World” to benefit Haiti. Among those stars were David Archuleta & Shakira. The song premiered yesterday and is now available on iTunes. You can purchase it HERE.

-David Archuleta gives a thumbs on the red carpet for the recording “Somos El Mundo,” the Spanish version of “We Are the World.”

David joined over 50 of the biggest names in Latin music to record the song to benefit Haitian earthquake victims. “Somos El Mundo” adapted into Spanish by Gloria & Emilio Estefan, marks the first time ever that the legendary recording is translated into any language, with the approval and blessing of Lionel Richie and the Michael Jackson Estate, who wrote the original lyrics.

The music video, which will air on the Univision Network, will make its world-wide premiere on “El Show de Cristina” (The Cristina Show) on March 1, 2010 at 10pm ET/PT (9pm Central) and an exclusive one-hour, behind-the-scenes special will also air on the Univision Network at a later date to be announced.

All proceeds derived from donations, iTunes downloads and retail sales of “Somos El Mundo” will be used directly by the We Are The World Foundation to benefit the Haitian cause in charitable and relief efforts.

-Jordin Sparks & David Archuleta throw up peace signs at the Allstate “X the TXT” Event at the Jordin Sparks Experience in Miami on Wednesday. The an annual charity gala for Sparks Charities is being hosted in conjunction with the 2010 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl in Miami.

The “X the TXT” event is to promote the stop of texting and driving, something that Jordin is very passionate about. She shared back in November, “I am really passionate about this issue and am so thrilled to have an ‘X the TXT’ event at the Experience. The event is focused on encouraging people to make a difference in their communities and families. By pledging not to text and drive we can save thousands of lives – choosing to not pick up the phone and keeping your eyes on the road can be the difference between life and death.”

The event featured performances by Jordin and fellow “American Idol” alum David Archuleta, plus appearances by Jason Derulo, Larry Fitzgerald, Albert Haynesworth, Lou Ferrigno, Nir and more. At the event, teens and their families were asked to add their thumbprints to a banner as a public pledge not to text and drive. Those who signed the pledge received thumb bands they can wear as a reminder and symbol of their pledge. Jordin and Jodi have proudly worn their bands since making the pledge in November.
