The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was, well, on fire this weekend at the box office, which was no big surprise.
The highly anticipated sequel to The Hunger Games opened to rave reviews on Friday earning a total of $161.1 million in North America alone according to THR. This makes the movie the largest November opening of all time. The record was previously held by The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($142.8).
Catching Fire also earned the fourth-biggest opening of all time after The Avengers ($207.4 million), Iron Man 3 ($174.1 million) and Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.2 million). Globally, Catching Fire opened to $307.7 million and is easily outpacing the take of the first film.
