“Ravenswood” Casting Shake-Up: Merritt Patterson Replaces Elizabeth Whitson
We had our first look at the city of Ravenswood in last night’s episode of “Pretty Little Liars” and boy was it creepy!
The city is the setting of ABC Family’s new spin-off, “Ravenswood,” and the cast includes Tyler Blackburn, Nicole Anderson, Britne Oldford, and Brett Dier. The series will also star Merritt Patterson, but according to THR, she’s changed roles.
Patterson was set to play Tess, the best friend of Olivia, who was to be played by Elizabeth Whitson. Just weeks before production is set to begin, it’s been revealed that Patterson will now replace Whitson and take on the role of Olivia. The character of Olivia is described as a former prom queen who is struggling with a recent fall from grace. Olivia used to be carefree and effortlessly happy, but recent events have left her questioning what’s truly important and she’s the twin of Brett Dier’s character.
“As we dug deeper into the mythology of Ravenswood we decided to re-conceive the character of Olivia. Merritt Patterson seemed to be the best choice for the direction the character is now headed,” executive producers for Ravenswood said in a joint statement exclusive to THR.
“Ravenswood” will center on a town, not far from Rosewood, PA (the home base of “Pretty Little Liars”), which has suffered under a deadly curse for generations. Five strangers suddenly find themselves connected by this fatal curse and need to dig into the town’s mysterious and terrible history before it’s too late for each of them.
