Sam Claflin Officially Lands Coveted Role of Finnick in ‘Catching Fire’
It’s finally official!
Lionsgate announced this morning that Snow White & The Huntsman actor Sam Claflin has officially landed the role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Many actors in young Hollywood had been rumored for the role including Garrett Hedlund, Armie Hammer, Zac Efron, Grant Gustin and more, but it was the UK actor that beat them all out for the role of the District 4 Tribute and ally to Katniss.
Spoiler Alert via EW: Along with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), the 24-year-old Finnick is among the previous champions forced to return to the arena for the 75th annual Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell. Katniss is initially wary of him — in Suzanne Collins’ bestseller, when they first meet, Finnick is wearing nothing but a fishing net with some strategically placed knots. But along with his former mentor Mags (Lynn Cohen), Finnick proves to be a powerful ally once they get to the arena.
What do you guys think of this casting? Who would you have cast as Finnick?
