-Nassau Coliseum was buzzing with activity all day on Saturday. The first ever Pop-Con took place over the weekend and featured numerous musical acts, ultimately leading up to headliners Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber.
We were honored to be invited as press to check out the event. Concertgoers who purchased special VIP tickets had the chance to enter the Coliseum early and participate in a panel featuring Chris Kirkpatrick (NSYNC), Steve Greenberg, Joey Page and more. The panel shared their stories about being in show business and offered advice to those interested in pursuing the field.
The event had two stages set up, the main stage and one in the back, which meant that the music was non-stop all day. There were performances by acts like Joey Page, Days Difference, Wow, BG5, Tiffany Giardina, Nat & Alex Wolff, Wonder Girls, Sean Kingston, Mercy Mercedes and many more. In a bittersweet moment, Push Play performed their last show together for their biggest sold out crowd. The only downside of the two stages, only fans in the back of the arena could really see the second stage. Everyone else had to watch the video screens, which doesn’t quite have the same appeal.

While the performances were going on in the arena, there was tons of activity down in the Expo Hall. Z100 had a stage set up where fans could sing karaoke. Meaghan Martin, who mc’ed some of the event, even took the stage to answer questions from fans. Fans could also purchase merchandise, chat with Radio Disney and much more. Some of the acts even did free meet & greets at their booths.
All this activity lead up to the two headliners: Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber. Selena played a set that included songs from her album Kiss & Tell like “Crush,” “I Won’t Apologize,” and “Naturally.” She also performed “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know” as well as a cover of “Hot & Cold” by Katy Perry. She wore a sparkly black dress and never stopped jumping around and smiling.
Justin Bieber took the stage with a full backing band, backup singers and dancers for a 40 minute set. The set included songs from My World and the upcoming My World 2.0. Justin showed off his dance moves and at one point hopped on the drum set for a solo. He also slowed things down to perform an acoustic cover of Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me A River” and Usher’s “U Got It Bad,” after sharing his story about how both wanted to sign him. Justin finished off his set with “Baby” and “One Time” and performed in an I <3 NY shirt.
Congrats to Pop-Con on a great first year. There was never a lack of things for fans to do and there were acts that appealed to everyone. One of the few downsides might have been that there were too many acts. Either way, we still had fun! Can’t wait for the next one.
